2. Proper use of Hydrocolloid dressings
Proper use of Hydrocolloid dressings
Do you have experiences with the wounds that are small, but have pus ? It is usually caused by the wounds that are not cleaned before applying wound dressings. If the wounds are not “rinsed” thoroughly at the first stage and covered the dirt with the dressings, then the dressings would become a breeding ground for bacteria.
We all have wounds, like tripping accidentally, friction wounds, cut wounds, etc. For patients with chronic diseases and long-term bedridden patients, they may have chronic wounds such as bedsore or foot ulcers that may not heal for many years. If the patients do not take good care of their wounds, the healing speed of the wounds may be slow and the chance of getting infection wound be bigger. How to protect the wounds in time? How to avoid external environmental stimuli, promote healing speed and reduce infection?
1. Rinse: The first step is to rinse the wound with sterile saline.
2. Wipe: Wipe excess water off after rinsing. This step is the most important step for taking care of the wound. If the wound is treated well, then the bacterial infection and ulceration can be avoided.
3. Apply: After wiping off the excess water, use a dressing to protect the wound. Using a hydrophilic dressing like artificial skin is recommended. Covering with the foam dressings can prevent bacterial infection and the Hydrocolloid dressings can also keep the wound to a certain degree of moist.
4. Check: After using the dressing, observe the condition of the wound regularly and check the degree of saturation of the wound fluid to determine if it is necessary to change the dressing and let the wound to recover quickly.
When injuries occur: [Rinse, Wipe] steps will affect the state of the wounds. Please be sure to rinse the wounds with plenty of clean water (tap water, drinkable water, saline) and the carefully wipe off the water. Let the wound keep clean.
After the wounds have been rinsed and wiped, please remember to choose moist dressings that can completely cover the wounds and check the state of the dressings from time to time. Because the skin around the wounds will be peeled off by the daily activities or sweat. If the exudates of the wounds comes out from the dressings, the dressings must be replaced. When replacing the dressings, please be sure to gently remove the old dressing and rinse the wound again. At the same time, observe the state of the wound and then apply the new dressing. If there are abnormalities such as redness, pain, or fever, please go to the hospital for medical advice.
